Immigration and Visas – Australia...

If you want to immigrate to Australia permanently to settle there and work, you’ll need to get an Australian Visa. Some people who migrate to Australia to work do so through the sponsorship of their employer, but this isn’t always necessary. If you simply want to leave your current employer in the UK and take up an entirely new career in Australia, that’s possible too.

Obtaining your Visa may at first seem like a complicated process, but with the help of internet technology it can be relatively simple. If you have skills required by employers in Australia, but have not been sponsored, you will most likely need to apply for a Skilled Migrants Visa.

Firstly, however, you will need to have your skills recognised in Australia. To do so you’ll normally have to undergo an assessment to determine what your qualifications and skills are. The kinds of occupations that are recognised in Australia range from Acupuncturist to Music Teacher to Zoologist, to name just a few.

Generally nowadays it’s possible to apply for your Australian Visa online. Depending on your circumstances you may have to undergo a series of assessments and tests but there’s no need to feel daunted by this. As long as you’re honest and clear about your reasons for wanting to move there, you’ll be welcomed by the Australian government.

When applying for your Visa it’s worth remembering that you will have to pay a fee for it to be processed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. This Visa Application Charge (VAC) will be in Australian Dollars (AUD) and is reviewed regularly.

Costa Cruises newest cruise ship the Costa Pacific...

The maiden voyage of the Costa Pacifica will be in June 2009. This magnificent cruise ship is purposely designed for music lovers and those who seek adventure. It shares similar quality features with other ships, including the Fortuna, Magica, Concordia, and Serena.

Once onboard, you’ll be able to listen to the first-class music that is very pleasing to the ears. Aside from its splendid music, the magnificent and well-crafted interior will also captivate your eyes.

The ship is spacious and offers comfortable accommodation, including 58 suites and 521 cabins. It also has a Samsara Spa with 12 suites and 91 cabins having direct access to this dazzling amenity.

You can indulge in anything you want to eat and drink, from chocolates and ice creams to cocktails and fine cuisines, because the ship has five restaurants and 13 bars. If you’re not in the mood to explore the shore, you can enjoy listening to your favourite music, played by a jazz band or a string quartet. There are also a number of other activities to do while on the ship. You can have fun splashing in its four swimming pools, jog on a jogging track, exercise in the gym, relax in its five jacuzzis, unwind in the sauna and steam room, get a tan in the solarium, enjoy spa treatments, shop in the many shopping venues, play in the video arcade and grand prix simulator, surf at the Internet point, read in the library, and wallow in the Thalasso pool.

Experience the magical evenings onboard the new Costa Pacifica. You can just settle down in the piano bar while drinking cocktails or have a quiet conversation. If you feel the urge to dance and swing your body to the beat of music, you can go to the ballroom or disco bar. Meanwhile, if you want to see professional singers and dancers, you can visit the three-tiered theatre. When you have enough of dancing, you can go to the casino and try your luck.

Visit the wild frontier of Albania...

One of the wilder destinations to be found in Europe is the remote coastal country of Albania. Albania is still not a member of the European Union, but despite this getting there is not that difficult. You will not require a visa to travel, just your passport.

The only international airport drops you in about 26km northwest of Tirana, which is one of the larger cities. Travel within Albania can be confusing, especially to the modern traveller. Most people get around by bus or small 10 seat vans, many of which will not leave for a destination until all the seats are taken; in order to maximize their meagre profits. Taxis can also be hired. You will not want to rent a car or drive in this country. The roads are in extremely bad condition; most of them are not paved, and most of its citizens only learned to drive within the last 15 years or so, thus conditions are treacherous at best. Prior to that, communist rule did not allow most citizens to own a licence, which explains the lack of experience.

Despite the backwoods sound of this European country, she is like the sleeping princess, just now awakening to the modern era. There are untouched pristine beaches that line the Mediterranean coastline, vast forests and mountain ranges that make up a wild frontier where ancient blood feuds still hold, and the city of Tirana is blooming with modern bars, hotels, and otherwise normal accommodation.

The people of Albania tend to be sincere and warm to tourists, and while this country is a relatively unexplored section of Europe by the modern traveller, there are enough pristine sights to make the trip worthwhile, despite being a little rough around the edges.

Why Emigrate to Canada?...

Canada is one of the top choices that migrants would consider. If you want to know why Canada is a great country of choice, here is a list of the top 10 reasons:

(1) The ever increasing population of migrants in Canada assures would-be migrants that this is a good country to live in. This high influx rate is the reason for (2) Canada’s stable economy. With its vast land area, Canada has the third lowest population density, globally. This fact gives everyone residing there the benefit of enjoying vast open spaces. With a US $35,500 per capita income, (4) Canada is one of the richest countries in the world. (5) A first-class quality of life can be experienced in Canada. To prove this, of the 114 nations, Canada was in 11th place in the global quality of life survey in 2005. This country has (6) plentiful job opportunities. People with skilled trade backgrounds who are moving to Canada have a good chance of being successful. (7) Mortgage rates are low in Canada; hence, people can own their dream houses at lower overall cost. This country is (8) open to multiculturalism. Canada has an (9) active sports and outdoor life. Ice hockey is the national pastime, and, so far, the most popular sport. (10) Canada is a very beautiful country with much breathtaking scenery. The fact that Canada is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world attests to its beauty.

It is not that there are only 10 reasons why people should emigrate to Canada. These are the main ones but there are really too many to list altogether.

Bulgarian Car Rental and Driving Conditions...

Travelling within Bulgaria can be an exciting experience, but there are a few guidelines that should be followed to ensure safety and avoid getting ripped off.

Corruption is still an issue in Bulgaria. They joined the EU in 2007, and it will take some time for people to get into the modern way of doing things. As such, some careful consideration should be taken before just taking off into the countryside.

If you do decide to rent a car be aware that road conditions in Bulgaria are tragically bad. They are getting better with the recent influx of cash from the EU, but it will take 10 or more years to address the worst of them. It is NOT recommended that you drive at night because of the number of dangerous potholes. Also be aware that traffic police can stop you for what are often ridiculously trumped-up charges, and are notoriously corrupt and known for making up things on the spot to get you to pay them in order to be let on your way.

There is an example of one American who took the 3 hour drive from Sofia to Varna and spent 18 hours in transit. He was pulled over a total of 14 times and had to negotiate monetarily for each “offense”.  Driving like a saint is apparently not a guarantee for avoiding getting pulled over. And while corrupt traffic police are becoming less and less of an issue, driving is generally NOT recommended. You are better off taking public transportation or getting a taxi.

Despite this, rental agencies are all over the country and you can rent cars for your specific needs. Just be warned that driving here carries its own set of dangers.

Why Should I Choose a Cruise?...

If you are considering a cruise holiday for the first time you might be wondering what advantages cruise deals have over other package holidays; there are many.

A cruise is like holidaying in a different five-star resort every single day. Staff on board cruise ships are trained to provide the highest level of service at all times, which means that you will be made to feel like the most special passenger on board that ship throughout your holiday. Most of the larger ships have all of the facilities you would expect to find at any land based holiday destination, and then some. If you are worried that you will get bored onboard ship then fear not. There is no shortage of activities, plus bars and restaurants to satisfy your needs.

Cruise deals also offer great value for money as you visit many different destinations for one, all-inclusive price. Cruise holidays are also convenient as you can either set sail from a number of ports in the UK or fly from your most convenient UK airport to your chosen departure port – and there are hundreds across the globe. All of your on-board purchases are made using your room card, so you needn’t worry about what currency you will require when you travel.

A cruise holiday also offers you the choice between a relaxing or formal holiday without compromising on luxury. Most cruises will offer you the choice of how casual or formal you wish to dress while onboard the ship. Some restaurants may have a formal dress code but, if that is not your thing, you don’t have to eat there. However, you may enjoy dressing up for the evening and eating the best food you can possibly imagine.

Wherever you choose to have your first cruising experience, you are almost guaranteed not to be disappointed.

The City of Kings – Lima, Peru...

While visiting South America, a stop in Peru to visit some of the amazing geographical sights of this country is a must. There are also many cultural and historic Incan and Mayan sites that are well worth the time to visit.

UK citizens can stay for up to 183 days on a passport alone; no visa is required. You can fly in direct to Lima, the capital city of Peru, and begin your journeys out into the side reaches of this curious country.

Lima is a typical South American city. Overcrowded, noisy, polluted, with some of the most aggressive drivers and horrible road conditions you will find anywhere in the world. But despite these things, Lima has a history of diversity. During the Spanish colonial era this Peruvian city was regarded as the most prosperous city within the Spanish territories, and known as “The City of Kings”. While that honour may have worn off over the years, this gateway city to the rest of the country still holds a vast array of museums, restaurants, and culturally significant destinations.

Hotel accommodation is plentiful, but you should absolutely not drive here. Hire a taxi. And be prepared for a bone-jarring ride that will have you clenching your teeth and wondering if you will make it to the other side of the city alive. It’s best to simply close your eyes and pray until the car stops and you are told to get out. Be sure to haggle about rates before getting in, because taxies are not metered.

Snow Fans, prepare to be amazed!...

Arguably some of the best skiing conditions within the Alps are within the Austrian Alps. Though there are plenty of other locations in Europe, the experience within Austria is different from that of French and Swiss ski trips, and not because of the difference in mountains. The people of Austria are what make the noticeable variances.

Most people who take ski trips to Austria comment on the friendliness of the resorts. Many times in other countries the resort staff will sometimes be a little difficult to deal with when communication is in English, but not so with the people within the Tirol region. These wooded mountains hold not only some of the best skiing conditions in the world, but the people who run these resorts absolutely exude appeal. They will have no qualms speaking English, and they will cater to your every need without question.

For the best experiences stick to the western edges of the Tirol region, as well as St. Anton, Lech, and Zurs. While some of the Austrian resorts are a bit lower and can experience low levels of snow, these resorts have far more reliable conditions.

Resort quality varies, but almost all of them are lodge accommodation. The food, the wine, and the staff will all combine to create a ski experience that you will be hard-pressed to recreate anywhere else in the world. And while the ski season generally lasts from December to April you can also come here in the summer for some of the most exhilarating hiking and climbing to be found in Europe.

Applying for an Australian Visa...

If you are considering emigrating from the UK to Australia, there will be certain rules and regulations to follow when applying for an Australia visa. The visa system is split into different categories and it is vital that you choose the right one to suit your current circumstances.

Among the most popular visas for emigrants from the UK is the ‘Skilled Workers’ category, which will either involve sponsorship by a prospective employer or an application based on your skills and experience. As Australia often advertises the need for migrant workers, especially skilled trades people, doctors and nurses, and similar professions, the ‘Skilled Worker’ visa has become the most widely used. However, if you are unable to meet the requirements for this visa, you can also apply under other categories, for example through a relative or spouse.

The good news is that the application procedures for an Australia visa can be accessed online via the official Australian Immigration homepage. The majority of visa applications are available and clear steps guide you through the information you will need to complete the process. Also worth noting are the fees that are associated with an Australia visa application, which can vary depending on which category you fall in.

Australian immigration policy is being continuously updated, so it is important to keep track of any changes that could affect your application. Although a large percentage of migrants come from the UK, visa approvals are decided purely on the evidence that you provide and do not vary from country to country.

Explore the Rugged Heights of Bolivia...

The world’s highest capital city is La Paz, situated at nearly 4km above sea level. It is the capital of Bolivia, a country in South America that boasts some of the highest elevation sights in the world. Entry for British citizens is available on passport only for a stay of up to 90 days. However, you may want to check with the Bolivian embassy for visa information should you choose to stay for longer, and vaccination for yellow fever may be required for certain destinations within the country depending on the time of year.

Your flight in will bring you directly to La Paz. From here you can head out in any direction, but the majority of your time will likely be spent within this alpine city. Situated in what is essentially a huge bowl within the lofty peaks of the Andes Mountains, it is the people and the culture more than anything else that draws travellers to this elevated domain.

As a bustling city, La Paz has plenty of accommodation and taxi services available for your travel needs. Despite its rustic appeal and traditional culture, there are plenty of luxury hotels and amenities to keep you in touch with your modern life. And for souvenir shopping, there is no match. You will find hand-spun alpaca wool products here in Bolivia, a rarity that is hard to find anywhere in the world, and well worth travelling here just to acquire.

While a bit rustic and rugged, La Paz is still a beautiful destination that should be seen by any traveller to South America.
