Archaeology and the sciences are the major fields that Egyptians pursue in these institutions. Before turning to Islam, Egypt enjoyed long periods of power and influence during the reign of the pharaohs. Archaeologists and adventurers have discovered and preserved tombs and relics of ancient Egyptian civilisation, which can be seen in museums around the city.
