Tips While in Palma de Mallorca...

With the ready availability of cheap flights to Palma, there are always tourists in the city. This is one of the most popular places in the Mediterranean and while there are dozens of flights going out every day, such as flights to London, flights to Aberdeen or even flights to Damascus and other international destinations, there are far more people coming in daily than are going out.

Since it is such a popular tourist destination, it is important to remember to book your cheap flights and hotel rooms as early as possible. The high season is generally between July and September, but one thing to pay attention to is the fact that different countries have different holiday periods and considering this is a popular destination for German and UK residents, paying attention to their major holidays can help you avoid the worst of the crowds.

As far as accommodation goes, it ranges from the budget to the luxurious, so where you choose to stay will largely depend on how much money you have left over after paying for your cheap flights to and from the island. Bear in mind that this is a major party city, so clubbing is one of the most popular after dark activities. If you do decide to go clubbing you may come into contact with people smoking marijuana, using cocaine or dropping Ecstasy; this can be quite a shock for more conservative travellers.

The Best Destinations are found at Thomson Cruises...

Destinations are the life of any cruise liner and the quality of the destinations offered by a cruise liner can effectively determine the level of its success. The considerable marketing and advertising behind every cruise is built upon how great their line-up of locations and destinations are. It could thus be said that every cruise liner is only as good as its destination.

Thomson Cruises recognises this importance. The company realises that it must provide travellers with the best cruise options in order to stay competitive in a tough industry.  As a result, they have assembled a list of destinations that cater to every imaginable taste of even the most experienced travellers.

Not content with merely coming up with a variety of destinations padded with uninteresting choices, Thomson Cruises has taken into account the range of needs and requirements of potential customers. The ability to consider these demands was borne not just from experience, but also from a unique sensibility to what people want in their vacation and where exactly they want to spend their time and money.

Covering nearly every major cruise destination, Thomson even throws in a number of places not easily available through other companies. From the historic and culture-laden spots of Europe, the tropical paradise that is the Caribbean, to the religious and historically significant places in the Middle East and Africa, every traveller can take his or her pick.

With the comprehensive line-up of locations that Thomson Cruises offers, planning a holiday has never been easier. Finally, selective and discriminating travellers can go exactly where they want to go. It’s what every cruise liner should provide and what Thomson Cruises offers regularly.

Snow in the Cairngorms...

News has been reaching us of a fresh fall of snow in the Scottish Cairngorms and that they expect to ski until June this year, which has to be good news for skiing enthusiasts. However the Scottish Highlands is not the only place where fresh snow has fallen and the popular resorts of France are experiencing some good conditions. Val Thorens in the 3valles complex has 160 cm of snow with another 30 cm expected and the conditions are described as spring like at the moment.

With a good covering of snow in the earlier part of the ski season, it has meant that the French Alps have been able to extend their season for longer this year. Ski deals are still available to most of the French Alpine resorts and for those lucky people who have skied the Alps in the late spring, they will confirm that it is an experience that most people love and return to year upon year. Imagine skiing down from the restaurant at the top of the mountain down to the lower slopes with your jacket tied around your waist taking in the warm sun, check out a ski deal today.

Renting Villas – Boulogne...

There is a move away from the usual and traditional method of taking holidays, with the all-inclusive package proving less popular as holidaymakers choose the more flexible option of renting a holiday villa for their stay. This can actually also work out cheaper, with a group of friends spreading the cost between them, and self-catering as well as being economical has advantages in its own right.

Do your food shopping at the local market to mix with the locals and practice a smattering of the language, which is always appreciated, and prepare your own picnics. Kids especially appreciate the space and privacy, to say nothing of the liberty, and if you hire a villa with a pool it will be a great focus for them and keep them amused whilst you put your feet up for a few precious hours.

But the greatest advantage is the freedom for you to come and go as you wish, without being restrained by set meal times.

Imagine renting a place in Boulogne, full of history going back to the Romans. There are so many things to see, such as the great city ramparts and castle, and this demands freedom to move and explore at your own pace.

Prepare your own packed lunch from local produce and arrange your own itinerary before setting off for the day. Or eat out at the many restaurants and cafes, which offer a fine, regional selection of food and drink.

Renting holiday apartments in Boulogne or elsewhere is easy, with many websites offering rentals in all shapes and sizes, either through an agent or direct from the owner, at competitive prices.

Things to see and do in Moscow...

Flights to Moscow are just over three hours in length from London, making it closer than many of the popular Mediterranean holiday destinations. Moscow offers the traveller many sites of historical significance and architecture that is sure to amaze.

Aeroflot and BMI offer cheap direct flights to Moscow from London Heathrow. Other airlines offering direct flights from London include British Airways, which at times have really good deals on air travel and although they are not a budget airline, their prices can be fairly competitive in certain circumstances.

Indirect flights from other UK airports can produce good deals.  For example, cheap flights from KLM leaving Manchester with a change at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is one alternative. Indirect flights from most other UK cities can be arranged through airlines such as AirFrance, Lufthansa and Emirates.

It may be an obvious choice but no trip to Moscow should miss the Red Square. There you can take in the sights of St Basils Cathedral and take a tour of the Kremlin. Lenin’s Mausoleum is a must see for any history enthusiast, although the popularity of this site has waned in recent years.

The recently refurbished (in 2005) Bolshoi Theatre has to been seen to be believed. This world famous theatre seats over 2000 people and an opera or ballet performance should definitely be on any traveller’s things ‘to do’ list.

A trip on a Moscow river boat is an inexpensive way to view many of the city’s buildings. The excursion lasts around two hours and takes in sights such as the Kremlin, Moscow State University and Gorky Park.

Popular tourist destinations – Croatia...

Having emerged from the horrors of the Balkan war Croatia is now becoming a popular tourist destination. The country has an outstanding coastline with 1,185 islands, plus numerous islets and reefs. The country also has picturesque medieval villages and Roman ruins making it attractive to those who like the sun, good food, local colour and history.

Croatia is arc-shaped, its long Adriatic coastline forming its western leg running down to the ancient seaport of Dubrovnik in the south. The land between the rivers Sava and Drava forms the northern part, with Zagreb, the capital sited there.

Most tourists will visit the Dalmatian coastline that is indented with peninsulas, rocky cliffs and small inlets. There are many good quality hotels and marinas in the area. Croatia offers visitors a Mediterranean climate, lush vegetation, stunning scenery and a unique culture. For those who want a more adventurous holiday there are opportunities to take part in a range of sports including kayaking, rafting, rock climbing, skiing, golf and sailing.

There is a wide range of accommodation available to rent in Croatia. Depending on their budget tourists can choose from hotels, apartments or villas. Renting holiday apartments or villas offers the freedom of using your accommodation as you wish and not having to share swimming pools or other facilities with other guests. If you are one of a group the cost of renting a villa may not be as much as you might think, and it will also help you to get a feel for the local culture if you shop in the local markets for food. Apartments can be 1-bed or 2-bed whilst villas range from 2-bed to 7-bed, some of which have their own swimming pools. Villas can range in type from old stone buildings to modern luxury villas with their own boat moorings and onsite catering services.

What Are The Benefits Of Last Minute Cruises?...

How long do you need to plan for a holiday? If you are willing to consider last minute cruises you will benefit considerably from booking something not long before you actually set sail. Many people book their cruises a long time in advance. This makes sense because it gives you time to plan your trip. But if you can travel at very short notice – making your booking only a week or two before you travel – you can get last minute cruises at much lower prices than you would normally.

One company recently offered discounts on last minute bookings of between 44% and 82% on the normal price. The main benefit of this is of course getting your holiday a lot cheaper than if you had booked it early. Another benefit is that you might be able to afford to take a cruise you wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.  A £1,099 ticket at an 82% discount – an actual recent offer – resulted in a discounted ticket price of just £199. This puts cruising within reach of most of us, provided we can travel at short notice.

You also have the benefit of being able to spend more when you are on the cruise itself. This could mean spending more on luxury treatments in an on board spa perhaps, or alternatively you can spend more on goodies to bring home when you disembark at one of the stops you make on the way. In short, last minute cruise deals could offer you the holiday of a lifetime.

Snowed Under – Travel Insurance for Skiing H...

Travel insurance is recommended whenever a holiday from home is planned, but for skiers, having the appropriate coverage is vital. Whether on piste or off piste, a skiing holiday does not have to be ruined by the workings of man or Mother Nature when winter athletes consider all the angles.

For EU residents, having a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for ski holidays can be beneficial as well as economical, but it will not cover for other eventualities a ski holiday may present. While this is not an insurance policy, the EHIC gives the holder certain rights to receive health care. If skiing in France, having the Carré Neige or Carte Neige in addition to a personal policy or the EHIC is recommended.

Injuries while skiing or snowboarding are inevitable. Look for a policy that also allows for after care to injuries suffered while on holiday. Coverage for pre-existing medical issues can be found too.

Many policies for skiers and snowboarders cover things like personal or rental equipment, but consider coverage of rental equipment if personal items are damaged or lost.

Not all reasons for insurance are injury related. Skiers and snowboarders can obtain insurance covering inconvenience of the weather itself. For example, an avalanche at the mountain can impact a ski holiday. Some policies will cover expenses if travel to or from the slopes are delayed because of avalanche or bad weather in general.

Another worse-case scenario is being in need of search and rescue operations. A good policy will include coverage whether this happens on the slopes or off.

How many ski holidays taken during the season is something to consider. If more than one holiday is planned, annual coverage may be a more economical option rather than paying for a single trip every time.

Visit Casablanca in the heart of Morocco...

Casablanca became well known after the release of the famous film of the same name. Prior to that it was very much an ordinary working city which had developed from what remained of an old pirate haven.

It is now the biggest city in Morocco and the largest port in northwest Africa. Cruises and boat trips leave the harbour on a regular basis and it is possible to get day trips or longer cruises to islands in the Canaries, or in the Mediterranean.

The gorgeous white Mosque of Hassan II is the second largest mosque in the world and its 688 ft (210m) minaret is the tallest in the world. This is a truly awesome sight and the mosque almost overpowers everything else in the city. Some visitors make the journey just to see this.

The central market (Marche Central) is the largest vegetable and fruit market in Morocco. A visit to this French named building is a real treat for the senses. The colours are brighter and more varied than those that can be seen in any fruit and vegetable market in UK.  Bananas, tomatoes, yams and all kinds of fruit are massive in size, and then there are the oddly shaped vegetables and fruits that add such an exotic feel to the market. This one is a favourite with children and adults alike.

Casablanca has world-class sporting facilities in the form of a top class golf-course to the north of the city, and the famous Formula One racing circuit at Ain Diab.

This is a fascinating city and ideally suited to couples because there is little to do for teenagers and younger children unless it is organised within a hotel complex.

Renting Villas in Italy...

It’s easy to see why Italy is such a perennially popular holiday destination throughout the year, with its varied landscapes of rolling countryside, mountain ranges and beautiful lakes, not to mention its unparalleled classical history as cradle of the Roman Empire.

To take full advantage of a short or long stay in Italy, and really immerse yourself in its culture, you can’t do better than to rent a holiday villa. The many advantages of doing so include flexibility – being able to come and go as you please, with no inconvenient fixed mealtimes to observe. In a hotel you often don’t feel like eating but have to because you’ve already paid for it and the kids especially won’t enjoy being dragged back from a fun outing just to eat. They’ll also have their own rooms in a rental, and much more space in general to chill out in and you won’t have to fret about the nerves of fellow guests.

It’s fun to self-cater, mix with the locals at the shops and markets, delight them with your smattering of Italian and prepare meals at whatever time you choose.

There is a plentiful supply of villas for rent across Italy, from rustic farmhouses to plush holiday apartments. Many of the properties are owned and used by the family for part of the year, so they have a comfortable and lived-in feel about them.

It’s cheaper to rent privately, but doing so through an agent also has its advantages such as that extra sense of security.
