While visiting South America, a stop in Peru to visit some of the amazing geographical sights of this country is a must. There are also many cultural and historic Incan and Mayan sites that are well worth the time to visit.
UK citizens can stay for up to 183 days on a passport alone; no visa is required. You can fly in direct to Lima, the capital city of Peru, and begin your journeys out into the side reaches of this curious country.
Lima is a typical South American city. Overcrowded, noisy, polluted, with some of the most aggressive drivers and horrible road conditions you will find anywhere in the world. But despite these things, Lima has a history of diversity. During the Spanish colonial era this Peruvian city was regarded as the most prosperous city within the Spanish territories, and known as “The City of Kings”. While that honour may have worn off over the years, this gateway city to the rest of the country still holds a vast array of museums, restaurants, and culturally significant destinations.
Hotel accommodation is plentiful, but you should absolutely not drive here. Hire a taxi. And be prepared for a bone-jarring ride that will have you clenching your teeth and wondering if you will make it to the other side of the city alive. It’s best to simply close your eyes and pray until the car stops and you are told to get out. Be sure to haggle about rates before getting in, because taxies are not metered.

Peru looks awesome.
