Flights to Moscow are just over three hours in length from London, making it closer than many of the popular Mediterranean holiday destinations. Moscow offers the traveller many sites of historical significance and architecture that is sure to amaze.
Aeroflot and BMI offer cheap direct flights to Moscow from London Heathrow. Other airlines offering direct flights from London include British Airways, which at times have really good deals on air travel and although they are not a budget airline, their prices can be fairly competitive in certain circumstances.
Indirect flights from other UK airports can produce good deals. For example, cheap flights from KLM leaving Manchester with a change at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is one alternative. Indirect flights from most other UK cities can be arranged through airlines such as AirFrance, Lufthansa and Emirates.
It may be an obvious choice but no trip to Moscow should miss the Red Square. There you can take in the sights of St Basils Cathedral and take a tour of the Kremlin. Lenin’s Mausoleum is a must see for any history enthusiast, although the popularity of this site has waned in recent years.
The recently refurbished (in 2005) Bolshoi Theatre has to been seen to be believed. This world famous theatre seats over 2000 people and an opera or ballet performance should definitely be on any traveller’s things ‘to do’ list.
A trip on a Moscow river boat is an inexpensive way to view many of the city’s buildings. The excursion lasts around two hours and takes in sights such as the Kremlin, Moscow State University and Gorky Park.
