Travel Tip: always take your driving license

Most of our readers are focussed on simply getting to their destination of choice: whether emigrating or just passing through your main concern is getting the paperwork in place to get through passport control and stay in the country legally.

However, when rushing to arrange your documentation for travel you shouldn’t neglect the paperwork you might need while you’re there, your driving license being chief amongst these. Although the physical license is pretty much unused in many countries, being obtained then quickly filed (or thrown) away, most European nations use their licenses as a form of ID and it may come in handy for this purpose. If it’s a photo card all the better, as it can act as a back up in case you lose your passport. Finally if you want to hire a car while you’re abroad your license is essential, and even when booking car hire online you will still need to show your license when you pick up a vehicle. Make sure you take it with you whenever your travel abroad.
